The United States has stretched its helping hand and allowed 10,000 Syrian refugees to enter the country premises in the previous year. In the last year itself the U.S. government has allowed to accommodate Syrian refugees in a large number in various states of the country. The states that have let in most of the refugees are California and Michigan allowing approximately 500 and 570 settlers respectively. The National security adviser, Susan Rice stated that the helpful communities in the country have constantly showed their support to the refugees, which signifies the values and ethics of the citizens. Accepting Syrian refugees signifies the fulfillment of pledge, which was made by Obama administration last September that promised to accommodate the refugees from the war torn country by the end of September. Obama’s program to accept Syrian immigrants was well applauded by the US citizens and nearly 51% supported the proposal. The United States accepted nearly 1,500 Syrian migrants during the 2015 fiscal year.
It has been reported by the National security adviser that 85,000 refugees have been welcomed from various countries in 2016. Previously in 2015 the U.S. accommodated 70,000 refugees. Obama administration previously announced that at most it would accept 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 30 September 2016. The decision was made by observing the Europe’s migrant crisis, which was the worst of a situation since World War II.
Even though Americans’ themselves have many and contradicting opinions on accepting refugees that have changed after the recent Paris attacks. It has been revealed that majority of the Americans - approximately 53% are against welcoming refugees. Even with the majority voicing out against the accepting of refugees, the U.S government yet has decided to accommodate refugees till the end of September 2016.
European countries like Germany and Belgium has accepted significant number of migrants from Syria. Several countries such as Sweden and other Scandinavian countries have also agreed to accommodate refugees.
