Indians are settling in the United Kingdom, and the United States is a thing of the past as they are exploring new options in the European Union. Indians are increasingly settling in Belgium, Sweden, and Norway. US Citizenship and Immigration Services reported that 2017 saw a 12 percent decrease in Indians settling in the United States compared to 2016. UK Citizenship Applications reported that Indians settling in the United Kingdom decreased by 30 percent in 2017 compared to 2016.
On the brighter side, Sweden saw an increase of 160 percent in Indians applying for Swedish citizenship in 2017 compared to 2016. Norway experienced the largest increase of 218 percent among the three nations between 2017 and 2016 fiscal year. According to immigration experts, Indians are now showing interest to settle in a developed country but also in smaller countries where the life is simpler and the cities aren’t too crowded. Experts also added that this trend will continue for several years down the line.
Reasons to Settle in European Countries
Top factor that contributes to the change is the political scene in India. Other two influences are the shortage of tier 2 visas in the United Kingdom and Trump administration in the United States. However, these two countries still offer very lucrative jobs to Indians, still keeping them engaged. The numbers we’re talking in reference to Sweden, Norway, and Belgium are in three digits, while they are in five digits for the other two countries.
