EU Approves Conditional Visa-free Travel for UK Citizens Post BrexitWith Brexit postponed to April 12th, an announcement has been made by the European Parliament that after UK leaves the EU, UK citizens will be permitted to travel to other EU countries for short trips, without a visa –provided the UK grants such traveling rights to the Europeans.

With the possibility of no-deal Brexit, the EU parliament has supported a draft law that excludes UK travelers from requiring a visa for short trips to European countries in order to wade off travel chaos. The law is expected to take its course after Brexit so that at the time, UK nationals will be able to stay in the EU for up to 90 days in any 180 days period. Apart from having the right to work in the EU, the visit will only apply for tourism, business or family/relative visit.

Reciprocity is a Condition

However, the European Parliament has agreed that if visa requirements are introduced by the United Kingdom for nationals of even one European Union country for either business or tourism visits, visa requirements will be reintroduced for UK nationals to all European Union countries.

This visa waiver applies to all EU countries excluding Ireland who already has a visa-free travel agreement with the United Kingdom as well as the Schengen countries of Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

In the case of Brexit occurring on April 12th without a deal, there will be an adoption and publication of the draft agreement in an official European Union journal.

However, UK nationals should also be in the know that across the border travelling rules for pets may go through some changes after Brexit.
