The government of Ontario has on Thursday, 11 April announced the introduction of a new immigration stream that targets tech workers as well as a new immigration pilot initiative designed to meet the demand for highly skilled immigrants by smaller communities around the province.
While unveiling Ontario’s new $163.4 billion budget on Thursday afternoon in Toronto, the government of the province outlined four immigration-focused priorities.
According to the budget, the initiatives are a response to the needs of employers in the province. The government revealed that by the enhancement or modernization of Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) in agreement with other initiatives, it would ensure workforce in the province stays in the league of the most highly skilled for the modern economy.
The four immigration-focused priorities include a dedicated stream for tech workers, Immigration pilot for smaller communities, Expanding eligible in-demand occupations and Entrepreneur immigration.
Dedicated Stream for Tech Workers
The province will create a dedicated stream in helping its technology sector attract highly skilled workers. This stream is to feed the province’s booming tech sector in some of its cities including Ottawa, Waterloo, and Toronto.
Immigration Pilot for Smaller Communities
Smaller communities around Ontario are also favored by this initiative that is aimed at bringing highly skilled immigrants to them. According to the government, this pilot program is to ensure the benefits of immigration reach smaller communities.
