Australian Govt Supports South African Farmers with a Special Visa

in Australia Immigration by

Peter Dutton, Home Minister of Australia, announced that the government might start a special visa for South African farmers because of the horrific conditions they face back at homes such as violence and land seizures. He talked about the visa with Daily Telegraph on March 14, 2018, and will see a similar processing time as a humanitarian visa.

Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa’s new president, is working for the rights of black South African farmers to enable them to get back their land without any compensation. At least one white farmer is killed every week. Dutton said that it is horrific when you hear and watch videos showing what all they are suffering from. He said that humanitarian, refugee and other visa programs were started to help people and have the potential to do so. As much as he knows, Dutton believes South African farmers do require help from a more developed and civilized country like Australia.

People from South Africa want to work hard and want to contribute to a country where they feel safe like Australia. Dutton said that he wants people to come here, abide by Australia’s law, integrate into the society, and work hard but not live a life of charity or welfare. He feels people like South African farmers deserve special attention. Australian home affairs department is continuously looking for ways to help them and improve their condition. Dutton said that the visa announcement will be made soon.

Cooperation with South African government

During his interview with the Daily Telegraph, Dutton asked if this visa is developed in association with the South African government. Dutton plainly replied that Australia will work with any government around the world for improving lives of people and bring them out of misery. There are many South African farmers working in Australia, most of whom came as refugees.
